Artist Statement

My art is tactile; the sensory experience is a central consideration. It is built around playful expressions of texture and color, often through the use of textiles and stitchwork. Fiber arts demand both repetition and precision; with each pass of the needle I strive to understand myself, stitch by stitch. Natural materials, creatures given life, and beast-headed representations of myself are all used to explore my personal identity and how it’s changed with time. Prose is another tool used to translate my blurry experiences of queerness. Many of my pieces start with careful observation, as I articulate my relationship with the world. Through a rich mix of mediums and techniques, my art acts as a mirror allowing others to see all of me and helping myself learn who I might become
